Last Sunday we went to the Garbers and had dinner with some friends. Carol had pumpkins for all of the kids to carve. Autumn is my favorite season so having pumpkins was a great reminder that summer is coming to a close (although my favorite reminder is the pumpkin spice shake at Culver's!). We got some adorable pictures of Leah and her friend Ethan in their Bumbo's. They weren't too sure what to think of each other. I will be sure to add those pictures as soon as I remember to ask Jeff where the cord is to get the pictures from the camera to the computer. (If you want a sneak peak, take a look at Kim Garber's blog -- there is a link at the bottom of this page).
Unfortunately not all of Leah's firsts are going to be good. This week she has been battling her first cold, fever and all. It started with stuffiness but was all down hill from there. Her fever started Friday morning. Jeff and I are very thankful that we have a babysitter that we can trust. Tanya took great care of Leah and treated her like one of her own. Sometimes sick babies just want a little extra cuddle time and Tanya was willing to give it to her until I could leave work.
I am pretty sure when the little light comes on to alert the nurses at the pediatricians office that they have a message, they say "Oh, it looks like Leah Sedberry's mom called again"...ha-ha. Most of you that read this blog know me pretty well, so I am sure you are not surprised by that. I know she is going to get sick but I just want to be 100% sure that I am doing everything I can for her. I would just feel horrible if she suffered just because this new mom didn't know what to do. I have learned that everyone has a piece of advice to give you and it often conflicts with the advice you got 10 minutes earlier from someone else. I am grateful for everyone's willingness to help us out. After taking all the advice and putting it together -- I think we are on the road to recovery. We have a cool mist humidifier going in her room and her bed is tilted. We got a smaller "snot sucker" -- technical term -- and saline drops for her nose. Grams is a nurse and advised us not to treat the fever until it got to a certain temperature. She said the body temp will help to burn out the virus. Makes sense to me. Her fever has came and gone, and came back. It is still low grade at this point and her congestion seems to be getting better.
Back to some good news, another first came today. Leah took her 1st good nap for us at home! She sleeps great at night and will go down ok for her naps but we have been having a hard time getting her to stay down for more than 1/2 hour or so on the weekends. We were told that it could be just an attachment to us on the weekends since she is with the babysitter through the week. Well, today she took a 3 1/2 hour nap in her bed! Jeff was a little disappointed because it was from 12:30-4 and he was already gone for work when she woke up. It is good for her to get good naps in though, especially when she is trying to fight this cold. Yay! (Tanya -- it was all in the blanket!)
