30 days and counting......

Today is June 17th which makes my due date exactly one month away. That reality is surrounded by a multitude of emotions. The first is anxiety – both the good and the bad. Not bad in the sense that I don’t want it to happen, but in the sense of nerves. It is the unknown….when will it happen? How will it happen? How fast or slow will it go? Will everything be ok? All things that are completely out of my control and unable to be organized or planned. I also do not want to rush things along because I know that right now, this next month, is the last month that it will ever be just Jeff and I. I want to hold on to that. I am working hard on getting some things crossed off of my "list of things to do". I am such a list person -- I am also working on realizing that it is ok if there are still things on the list when the baby arrives.

Then there is the good sort of anxiousness – is our baby a boy or a girl? What and who will he or she look like? What will his or her name be? (That is a whole dilemma in itself) Overall, we just cannot wait to meet our little one and see our friends and family with him/her. I am very excited to become a mom but I think even more so, I am so very excited to watch Jeff as a daddy. It is already very apparent that he loves this little guy or gal so much. I just want to capture his facial expression when he sees his baby and store it forever. The good anxiousness greatly outweighs the part associated with nerves. We could not be happier right now.

Also, as most of you know – I had a baby shower this past weekend. It was a wonderful day that I was able to share with a lot of family and friends. I will post all about it soon. I want to be able to add pictures and need to get them from the camera to the computer first.

Hospital Tour

It is getting close……we went on a tour of the maternity ward last night. We will be delivering at St. Vincent Carmel. Yes, I am well aware that the baby has to come out sometime and that we will be 35 weeks along tomorrow BUT….somehow last night was still overwhelming. We went into a labor and delivery room where they have the warmers for the baby and saw some newborns in the nursery. The lullaby sounded off over the PA system indicating the birth of a new baby and there were families waiting in the waiting rooms. All sights and sounds that were not surprising, but nevertheless, reminders of things to come – soon.

We are both very pleased with the services offered by the hospital and the wonderful staff. The nurses were wonderful when I was in triage for IV’s earlier in the pregnancy. They explained everything well and were very attentive. I can only imagine that they will continue to do the same. We also ran into our doctor last night while he was on rounds. It was nice to see that he recognized us out of the office setting. I have my fingers crossed that he is on call when I go into labor but will be happy with any of the doctors in his practice. The only disappointing part of the tour was discovering that I have to leave my big wonderful labor and delivery room to move to a post-partum room just a few hours after delivery. The bigger room would obviously be more comfortable and accommodating for having visitors but it isn’t a big deal. I am sure that will be the very last thing on our mind once the big day gets here.

This is the picture of the labor/delivery room from the St. Vincent website. There is a separate area for the baby warmer so they can keep us all together after the delivery.

Jeff was rather excited to see the cookie warmer in the big lounge and the snack room. He said the other day that he would have a runner to get us food in case labor is long. He had no idea that I couldn’t eat until I told him he would be walking on thin ice if he brought food in and ate it in front of me, ha-ha. I plan to be a nice wife and let him go eat but the hormones of labor are unknown and I am not making any major promises quite yet, ha-ha.

We have a labor and delivery express class tomorrow night. It is supposed to be a little bit about everything. We opted for that rather than the full blown classes because I just wanted an overview and Jeff’s rotating work schedule makes it difficult to sign up for a weekly class.

Hopefully everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather!

Doctor Updates and Girl Time

We went to the doctor yesterday for a regular check-up. The bean is
still doing great. His or her heartbeat was strong at 141. We got a
good chuckle because the bean had the hiccups while we were listening
to the heartbeat. If you watched closely, you could see my belly bounce
with them. I made some progress and gained a few pounds since my last
appointment.WooHoo – no more nasty-dissolve-in-my-mouth pills! I am
still getting sick but I can handle that as long as I am gaining the
weight that I am supposed to.

I am measuring right on target so hopefully that means we will deliver close to the due date and not before. Don’t get me wrong, we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our little one and I will be happy to be able to get up off the floor without assistance, ha-ha, but I am also going through the “the baby will be here soon and I still have a ton of things to do!” stage. Yes, I am well aware that for the rest of my life things will go unfinished and unorganized at times but I would like to at least have some control over things BEFORE he or she gets here. Either way, we will be elated when the big moment arrives – ready or not. On another note, we completed our homework from our last visit and chose a pediatrician. Well, actually I cheated and asked a few of my friends with small children who they trust. They had the same answer so I called her.
Thankfully, she is taking new patients and we are all set. We go back to the doctor in 2 weeks, on the 18th, and then we are starting our every week appointments (oh my!).

A group of my friends from law school came over last week for a girl’s
night in. We ordered pizza and made scrapbook pages for the baby. Not
only was it a lot of fun but also very productive. Now all we need to
do is take the pictures and put them on the pages. We have pages for
labor and delivery, baby’s first bath, the baby shower, etc. It was
also very nice to hang out and chat with my girlfriends, who I don’t
see as often as I would like. They went together and got us our baby
swing! We love it! It is sage green with an animal print on it. It
makes animal sounds and plays music. We had quite the adventure putting
it together. I have to admit (why I don’t know) that it took both Jeff
and I and a set of instructions with pictures to get it together. I
forgot to take pictures while my friends were over but I did get some
snapshots of Jeff working on the swing.

My little sisters (I am sure they love it when I call them that -- they will be 20 in a few months) are coming to stay for a weekend in a few weeks. It will be a lot of fun to spend some time with them before the baby gets here. We may just have to do more scrap booking pages! (My friends may have created a monster, ha-ha). Jewel and Jess used to do a lot of scrap booking so I am sure they will put my pages to shame but we will have fun doing it and will always have that memory. I went to Hobby Lobby today and much to my excitement – most of the scrap booking
supplies were 50% off. You know me and a sale!!
