Leah updates!

I have been horrible about updating the blog lately. It was only after a family member asked me how Leah was doing with her Chicken Pox that I realized how far behind I had gotten. So, here is the update.

Leah did great with her “chicken pox”. We could tell they bothered her some because she would try to scratch when she didn’t have a shirt on and fussed some when she was on her back (where most of them were located) but she was very good with them. I put chicken pox in quotes because we received a call from her doctor’s office last week telling us that the culture they had done of one of the pox came back and it was NOT chicken pox. They are not sure what it was. It could have been a food allergy, eczema or a viral rash. It was over by the time they called so there wasn’t any more testing they could do to determine the source. The dermatologist said it looked like it could be eczema but said the way it was appearing typically only happens on African Americans. That was interesting because the last time I checked, she was pretty Caucasian, haha. (We took her to the dermatologist a few days before we got the results from the culture back because the doctor had given us such a vague “it must be chicken pox because I am not sure what else it could be” diagnosis before). Anyways, long story short – she didn’t end up having chicken pox after all. Thankfully there is not any medicinal treatment for chicken pox so she had not been medicated for it. Her spots are gone now so there was no harm done. We are just watching her closely with new foods to make sure it wasn’t a food allergy.

In other big news – she is on the move! We had resigned to the fact that she had zero interest in rolling over. She has been able to sit up unsupported since Christmas but still hadn’t rolled over for us. However, there have been several times I got her up from her nap and she was on her belly when I had put her on her back. Her muscle strength was there but her interest wasn’t. Well, the other night Jeff was lying on the floor playing with her and I was standing up with the video camera. I told her to get her puppy (the Learning Puppy, one of her favorite toys) and she rolled right over to it! She was so proud! She does it quite often now. She was playing with her toys on her play mat the other night so I ran upstairs to throw in a load of clothes. (It was literally a quick run because I hate leaving her unattended). I was gone for about 1 ½ minutes and came back to her laying 3 feet from where she was, chewing on the dog bone! When I asked her what she was doing, she looked up at me, smiled really big and shook the bone. She is a hoot!

Yes, there is more big news! The days of toothless grins are gone. Leah has her 1st tooth!!! She had her mouth opened wide for her oatmeal on Saturday morning when I caught a glimpse of it. Each day it is bigger. It is a sharp little razor blade that is for sure! It is big enough that you can see it when she smiles now without having to rub for it. I was actually quite surprised to see it. She has been chewing on everything so I knew that she was teething but I was waiting for the fussiness and it never came.

I apologize for the lack of pictures; I will try to get some on here soon. Jeff has his new camera that he got for Christmas. He loves it but it is too fancy for me. I was just getting the hang of how to get the other pictures to the blog without his assistance. Oh well. Stay tuned!
